This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy“) governs the processing carried out by SimilarWeb Ltd. (“Company”, “we”, “us”) of data collected in connection with your use of our Custom Google™ Background extension (“Service”; “Extension”), available on the Chrome Store at Link.

This Privacy Policy is an integrated part of the Company’s Terms of Use (available at: https://custombackground.co/terms/) (“Terms of Use”) and is a legally binding agreement between you and us. This Privacy Policy as well as our Terms of Use shall be binding upon any use or attempt to use our Services, including any portion thereof. Definitions herein shall have the same meaning as defined in the Terms of Use.

Custom Google™ Background, which belongs to SimilarWeb’s product family, is a browser extension for a large community of users that wish to improve their browsing experience by customizing their search page, provided for non-commercial use.

We respect our users’ privacy and make every effort to provide a service that meets industry standards and our user’s expectations in terms of privacy. This Privacy Policy provides important and transparent disclosures on what, how and why we collect, share and use our users’ data, and we encourage you to read the Privacy Policy carefully prior to using our Extension and to use it to make informed decisions.

We reserve the right to periodically amend or revise this Privacy Policy at our sole discretion. The changes and updates will be effective immediately upon the display of the revised Privacy Policy. For this reason, we encourage you to check this Privacy Policy regularly for updates, so that you are fully informed of how we collect and use your data and how you can exercise your rights related to this data. The last revision date is reflected in the “Last modified” heading. Your continued use of the Extension following the display of such amendments constitutes your acknowledgement and consent to such amendments to the Privacy Policy and your agreement to be bound by the terms of such amended policy. In the event of any material changes that will adversely affect your use of the Service or the data collection by us, we will make best efforts to provide you with notification through the Service.

  1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

We primarily collect non-identifiable aggregated information which is made available via your use of the Service (“Non-Personal Information”). We are not aware of the identity of the users from whom the Non-Personal Information is collected. Non-Personal Information includes aggregated information transmitted by the user’s device or generated by the user’s browser, such as visited URLs, web server log information (i.e., web request) as well as data sent in response to that request, date and time stamp. In addition, we may collect other categories of identifiable information when you install our extension or otherwise use the Service. Identifiable information is information that identifies an individual or may with reasonable effort be used to identify an individual (“Personal Information”). The Personal Information (e.g., name and email address) is collected and stored only if voluntarily provided by you when you contact us. We will use such information for the sole purpose of communicating with you and providing support. We will not share this data with any third parties.

We process the information listed in Section 1, above, to provide you with our Service. We also use your information in an effort to improve our users’ experience, to communicate with you about our Services, and to further develop, customize, enhance and improve the performance of our Extension.

We combine your Non-Personal Information with other aggregated information and/or statistics regarding user browsing behavior collected from use of the Services, which do not identify any individual users, for the Company’s general market and statistical analyses, activities and services.

  1. HOW IS THE DATA SHARED?

We do not share any of your Personal Information with our partners or with any third parties. The Non-Personal Information we collect may be used or shared in any of the above circumstances, as well as (i) for the purpose of providing and improving our Services; or (ii) combining with our data to conduct our market and statistical analysis in connection with our business, products and services; or (iii) with our partners or customers as part of Company’s aggregated data analysis services. If we combine Personal Information with Non-Personal Information, the combined information will be treated as Personal Information for as long as it remains combined.

We may share your Non-Personal Information with our parent company, any subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control (collectively “Affiliated Companies”) solely if and when applicable or necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. We may share your Information, including Personal Information, with professional advisors and interested parties in the event of a corporate transaction (e.g. sale of a substantial part of our business, merger, consolidation or asset sale), restructuring or insolvency process. In the event of the above, our Affiliated Companies or acquiring company will assume the rights and obligations as described in this Privacy Policy.

As a part of an international group, we may store or process your personal information in the United States or in other countries. If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) we will take appropriate measures to ensure that your personal data receives an adequate level of data protection upon its transfer outside of the EEA. If you are a resident of a jurisdiction where transfer of your personal data requires your consent, then your consent to this Privacy Policy includes your express consent for such transfer of your data.

Please note that, unless you instruct us otherwise, we keep the information we collect from you for as long as needed to provide the Services described in this Privacy Policy and to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.

If you do not agree to the aforesaid collection, use and sharing of data, we ask you to immediately cease using our Services and remove the Extension from your Chrome browser. In the alternative, see the Opt-Out section below in this Privacy Policy.

We implement security safeguards, such as encryption of personal data, when handling sensitive data. In addition, we regularly monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your information, you acknowledge that: (a) there are security and privacy limitations of the Internet which are beyond our control; and (b) the security, integrity and privacy of any and all information and data exchanged between you and us through the Service cannot be 100% guaranteed.

  1. MINORS

Children under 13 are prohibited from using our Service. In the event that we become aware that a user under the age of 13 has shared any information with us, we will proceed to delete such information. Even after providing your consent to this Privacy Policy, you are entitled to change your mind. If you do, you may opt out of the data collection and sharing process, by clicking on ‘Options’, and turning off ‘Send anonymous data’. After you opt out, we will no longer collect and share your data as described in this Privacy Policy. Note that once you opt out, some of the Services provided by the Extension will no longer be available.
